I'm hoping the NFL gets what it deserves tomorrow -- a stupendously played Super Bowl with a big ending:
Saints fans thrilled by the aerial theatrics of spurned quarterback Drew Brees, who has had his embracing of a multi-million dollar contract confused for, well, sainthood. (Sorry, while I love Mr. Brees' zest for the game, let's cut the revisionist history on how he landed in the Big Easy, read the real story here.)
Colts fans gaga over another meticulous game management by seemingly robotic quarterback Peyton Manning, his over-sized helmet giving him the appearance of a giant Great Gazoo, as he steers his troops up and down the field. Then, stands emotionless at game's end, no matter the outcome, focused on the next contest's gameplan (yes, that one in August) unwilling to enjoy the embrace victory as an end destination.
And, left-armed, right-winged minor league quarterback Tim Tebow paying (paid?) to inform us how important he is to humankind. What a loss he would have been. How he loves everyone. Only an advertisement with another player leaning over and kissing Mr. Tebow would convince me all is fair in love and ad dollars.
All ending with -- wait for it, Mr. Brees winning (losing?) a coin-toss as the two teams are tied at the end of regulation play. As CBS breaks for a commercial, its satellite is hacked and two birds lip-locked are shown. The network's switchboard lights up: Men pleading, "what time and day will that show be seen?" so they can set their TIVO's. (Wait! Gay kissing? That's, well, banned. Non-traditional. Conservative even. POP!) We return you to the game already in progress...
"And the kick is up and it's good! After 17 weeks of regular season, many weeks of playoffs, the championship has been decided by a coin toss, a penalty on the first play after the overtime kickoff and a field goal."
"Yes, Phil it's been a heck of a season."
"Can you say 'heck' on TV, Jim?"
"Only in America."
Great post! And a hearty "hear hear!" for the overtime bit! Almost came true as well!

...And how did I forget the fairy tale ending when Saints player Reggie Bush proposes to Reality player Kim Kardashian on the field sealing their supposed bet. (via Bing) http://bit.ly/bl5zFz
